Matt Hardy: If WWE Hadn't Cleared Edge, He Would Have Ended Up In AEW

Could Edge have been All Elite?

Matt Hardy believes Edge would have ended up joining All Elite Wrestling if The Rated-R Superstar hadn't been cleared by WWE doctors for an in-ring return.

Speaking on the MCW Cast, Hardy said: "That was one of those things too. I think if they [WWE] hadn't have cleared Edge and let him wrestle, he was going to end up at AEW. So they kind of had to go, 'Oh. If we don't want him to go, we got to let him have his way.'"

Edge retired from professional wrestling in 2011 after being diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis. After crashing his bike while mountain biking with Sheamus in the Summer of 2019, though, Edge realised his neck was fine after the incident and he went to independent doctors to get cleared for an in-ring return.

After being cleared, Edge approached WWE but the company weren't initially interested in bringing The Rated-R Superstar back which prompted Edge to begin talks with All Elite Wrestling.

Shortly after, WWE's Vince McMahon told Edge he would be returning in a WWE ring if he was coming back to wrestling and the 11-time world champion was cleared by a WWE doctor ahead of his return at Royal Rumble 2020.
