Matt Hardy Seemingly Becomes Broken Again In AEW

It looks like Matt Hardy could be ‘Broken’ again in AEW

After months of turmoil, it looks like Matt Hardy has reached his breaking point in AEW, with Hardy seemingly reverting to his ‘Broken Matt’ character on the latest episode of Being the Elite.

Hardy has been entangled with Ethan Page since the end of 2022, with the two feuding over Hardy’s employment status after Page took control of the destinies of Hardy and his proteges in Private Party. Hardy and Page looked like they were getting on the same page (no pun intended) in recent weeks, but the latest BTE showed Matt yelling into a mirror after a positive chat with ‘All Ego’, before emerging with wild hair and wearing his Broken Matt robes.

The change in character has been teased for a while across BTE and AEW TV. Hardy originally debuted for AEW in 2020 as Broken Matt, but it is felt the character didn’t work very well in the ‘empty arena’ era of the COVID-19 pandemic, with Hardy subsequently morphing into his ‘Big Money Matt’ persona from TNA.

Hardy first introduced Broken Matt to the world whilst part of the TNA/IMPACT roster in 2016, with the Broken universe quickly becoming the talk of the wrestling world. After his WWE return in 2017, Hardy turned into ‘Woken’ Matt, eventually teaming with Bray Wyatt.
