Matt Hardy Thinks Cody Rhodes' WrestleMania 39 Loss Could Have Possibly Been Due To AEW Involvement

Matt Hardy Thinks Cody Rhodes' AEW Affiliation Could Have Played A Role In WrestleMania Loss

Cody Rhodes lost to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, falling short of winning the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in a result which caused a lot of deflation amongst fans. Debate on why this call was made has gone through wrestling fans and media over the last week.

Matt Hardy on his 'Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy' podcast has toyed with the idea that Rhodes’ previous affiliation with AEW could have played into the decision to have him lose in the WrestleMania 39 main event;

"Cody, he ends up leaving, he goes out, he creates a company, he creates success. He gets himself over. He's a big deal and [people are] all behind him. Vince comes in at the end of the day, like, 'hold up, before you are going to run this ship, I'm going to show you. I'll make you earn it.' I mean, that's a possibility. I don't know if that is the actual factual, true deal [though].”

Rhodes was notably an EVP alongside The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, and helped push towards the creation of AEW, helped by the founder and president Tony Khan.
