Mercedes Moné Suffers Injury At NJPW Resurgence

Mercedes Moné out of action due to injury

Mercedes Moné is set for a stint on the sidelines after sustaining an injury during New Japan Pro-Wrestling's Resurgence pay-per-view from Long Beach, California on Sunday, May 21.

Moné faced Willow Nightingale in the final of the NJPW STRONG Women's Title tournament to close out Resurgence and the former Sasha Banks sustained an injury when she jumped from the top turnbuckle to the outside and pulled Nightingale's neck across the top rope. Moné was unable to put any weight on her right leg after the move and the competitors went straight to the finish as Willow hit Moné with a Powerbomb. The referee didn't count the 1-2-3 even though Moné didn't get her shoulder up so the competitors repeated the spot, with the official counting the pin this time.

Moné had to be carried out of the ring following the match and PWInsider has since reported the word making the rounds backstage at Resurgence was that Moné suffered a broken ankle.

The former IWGP Women's Champion has since taken to Twitter from a hospital bed, writing: "WRESTLING!!!! Phew, not how I dreamed for tonight to go. I'm so sorry and I love you guys so much. I'm gonna heal and be back better than ever."

Moné has been a part of NJPW since January 2023. She held the IWGP Women's Title for 64 days before dropping the belt to Mayu Iwatani in April.
