MJF Reveals Why He Hasn't Immediately Looked To Regain The AEW World Title
"Everyone in this company works hard. Working hard is for suckers. I work smart."
Jul 2, 2024
AEW star MJF recently won his first pay-per-view match since returning to in-ring action. In front of a hometown crowd, the Long Island native defeated Hechicero to open last weekend's Forbidden Door show, but remains quite distant from the main event title picture.
This development has surprised some fans, given that MJF held the AEW World Championship for almost the entirety of 2023, but seems not to be angling for an immediate title shot. He was shown watching the Forbidden Door main event - a title match between Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay - but current speculation has most viewers predicting a match at All In between MJF and Ospreay, with Swerve defending his belt against the winner of the men's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. In a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, MJF explained his thought process, stating:
"I know how to pick my spots. Right now is not the time. I know when the time is. Right now it's not. Swerve is on a goddamn roll [...] The guy is absolutely locked in. He's next level right now. Do I want to deal with him at the moment, when he's 100% and I'm still healing from a shoulder injury? Do you think that's bright? I'm a man that picks my spots. Everyone else in this company is dumb. Everyone in this company works hard. Working hard is for suckers. It's stupid. I work smart."
