MJF Vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi To Open AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

The AEW World Title match will kick of Forbidden Door

A huge bout will serve as the opener for tonight's AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door PPV from Toronto, as the AEW World Champion MJF will defend his gold against NJPW’s ‘Ace’ Hiroshi Tanahashi.

During last night’s episode of AEW Collision, Tanahashi picked up a hard-fought win over Swerve Strickland, building momentum to his title bout. After the bell, MJF’s music hit, though no champion emerged. He instead appeared on the tron, much to the disappointment of those in attendance. MJF cut a promo on Tanahashi and the crowd, before revealing that the only way he was going to compete at Forbidden Door was if his match was the opener.

For the first time in AEW history, the AEW World Championship will officially open a PPV event. MJF made sure to make it clear that he would not be sticking around to watch the rest of the show and remain in Canada. It is certainly one big way to kick off the show.

The main card for Forbidden Door is looking like this;

  • Kazuchika Okada vs. Bryan Danielson
