Jeff Cobb and Callum Newman recently vacated the IWGP World Tag Team Championships, coming after Cobb’s abrupt but expected exit from NJPW as he reportedly heads to WWE, signing after the expiration of his deal with the Japanese promotion.
Newman found a new partner in Great-O-Khan to try and win back the gold at NJPW’s Wrestling Redzone event at the Sun Plaza in Hiroshima, taking on the duo of Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI of Bishamon in the main event for the newly vacant belts. Newman hit the Prince’s Curse and pinned YOSHI-HASHI for the victory, winning back the titles. This win makes Great-O-Khan a double champion in NJPW, as he currently reigns as the NJPW World Television Champion. Newman will seek to replicate this feat of holding two titles, as he is next in line to challenge Goto for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, with their match coming at Wrestling Dontaku on May 4 early next month.
Tomohiro Ishii and Taichi emerged after the bout to issue a challenge for their newly won tag team titles - a challenge that was accepted.
