Nick Khan Explains Why WWE Chose Las Vegas To Host SummerSlam 2021

SummerSlam heads to the Allegiant Stadium on Saturday 21 August

WWE President Nick Khan has explained why the promotion decided to host this year's SummerSlam in Las Vegas.

WWE SummerSlam 2021 will emanate from the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday 21 August in what will be the first SummerSlam to be hosted inside an NFL stadium.

Khan, who himself was born and raised in Vegas, says WWE is aware of how particularly badly Las Vegas was hit by COVID-19 economically and believes putting on such a significant event in the city will help to bring in outside tourists again.

Appearing on FOX 5 in Las Vegas, Khan said: "We know how bad the pandemic hit Las Vegas and the economy there. One of the thoughts we had [at WWE] was to have one of our signature events, SummerSlam, at Allegiant.

"I don't believe there have been full fans there yet. We thought a big sell out crowd in Vegas to help stimulate the economy would be the right thing to do with the city."

Khan issued similar sentiments during an interview with News 3 in Vegas, saying: "There's so much money and commerce flowing through Las Vegas, an event like ours, it only made sense to have it there.

"We believe Las Vegas is a working-class heart type of town. People work hard, they play hard. To have an event to help re-jump start this economy and get people back going and put smiles on faces, that's what we do and we're happy to have it there."
