Did New Japan Pro-Wrestling just present their show of the year?

NJPW returned to EDION Arena Osaka for the final show of their Battle Autumn tour on Saturday, November 5 and the event featured a number of excellent matches, including FTR vs. Jeff Cobb & Great-O-Khan, Zack Sabre Jr. vs. EVIL, and Francesco Akira & TJP vs. Titan & BUSHI.

A match that will be remembered as one of the best of the year then took place in the main event as Will Ospreay defeated Tetsuya Naito to retain the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship. Naito managed to connect with two Destinos but Ospreay kicked out on both occasions and picked up the win following a Hidden Blade and Stormbreaker.

Following the main event, Ospreay issued an open challenge for NJPW x Stardom Historic X-Over on November 20 which was eventually answered by the returning newly-dubbed 'Roughneck' Shota Umino. The former young lion proceeded to enter the ring and take out Ospreay and the United Empire before he held up the IWGP United States Heavyweight Title, seemingly accepting the open challenge.

Ospreay and Umino have faced off in NJPW before, with Ospreay defeating 'Roughneck' at Royal Quest II by referee's decision on October 1.
