NJPW New Year Dash 2021 Results

Another tough night for Jay White...

Following Wrestle Kingdom 15 on January 4 and January 5, New Japan Pro-Wrestling held New Year Dash earlier today at Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

In keeping with tradition, the card was announced at the top of the show and featured numerous multi-man tag team matches. Check out the results below:
• Yuji Nagata def. Gabriel Kidd
• Minoru Suzuki & DOUKI def. Tiger Mask & Yuya Uemura
• Will Ospreay, Jeff Cobb & Great-O-Khan def. TenCozy & Yota Tsuji
• El Phantasmo, Taiji Ishimori & Guerrillas Of Destiny def. Yoshinobu Kanemaru, El Desperado & Dangerous Tekkers
• Tomohiro Ishii, Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI, Toru Yano & Kazuchika Okada def. Jay White, EVIL, Bad Luck Fale, Chase Owens & Yujiro Takahashi
• BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, Shingo Takagi, SANADA & Tetsuya Naito def. Master Wato, Kota Ibushi, Rocky Romero, SHO & Hiroshi Tanahashi.

Heading into the event, many were intrigued about Jay White's status after he said he would be quitting NJPW after New Year Dash. If his comments were in storyline or legitimate is currently unknown and the January 6 show failed to clarify Switchblade's situation beyond that he was pinned by Tomohiro Ishii following a Vertical Drop Brainbuster.

Multiple future title matches were also put in place during the event. El Phantasmo pinned Yoshinobu Kanemaru following a Thrust Kick with a suspected loaded boot and ELP and Taiji Ishimori held up the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship belts after the match. More challenges were then made after the main event when NEVER Openweight Champion Shingo Takagi made his intentions known to Hiroshi Tanahashi and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi repeated his challenge to SHO.

Hiroyoshi Tenzan also left Tokyo Dome City Hall on a stretcher following a post-match attack from The Empire. Kevin Kelly and Chris Charlton promised an update would be released when they have more news on his status.
