NJPW's Will Ospreay Fired Up To Return

Ospreay has been out of action since May

It’s been a topsy turvy year for New Japan’s main event scene. The ongoing Corvid 19 pandemic, hotshot booking, and a number of injuries to stars have slowed NJPW’s momentum, with one of the biggest set backs being the injury to Will Ospreay.

Ospreay was reigning as the second ever IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, but after a little over a month with the gold had to vacate the strap due to injury following a successful defence against Shingo Takagi at Wrestling Dontaku.

Now according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ospreay has undergone an MRI, and whilst the news “wasn’t the best”, the results have concluded that his injuries are treatable, and have reportedly fired Ospreay up to eventually return.

Since Ospreay vacated the title, Shingo has stepped up and claimed the belt for himself, defeating the legendary Kazuchika Okada at Dominion 6.6 earlier this month. Whilst there is no timetable on Ospreay’s return as of yet, if Shingo still has the title then it seems a rematch will be inevitable.
