Wrestle Kingdom continues to expand.

While the Tokyo Dome show was traditionally a one-day event on January 4, the event added a January 5 show to the calendar in 2020, expanding to two days.

That expansion will continue in 2022 and New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced during today's Wrestle Grand Slam in MetLife Dome show that Wrestle Kingdom 16 will be a three-day event in early January.

In keeping with tradition, two Wrestle Kingdom 16 shows will take place at the Tokyo Dome on January 4 and January 5, 2022. The first Wrestle Kingdom outside of the Tokyo Dome will then follow on January 8 when NJPW visits the 17,000-seat Yokohama Arena.

New Year Dash has followed Wrestle Kingdom since 2014, but the status of that show remains unclear following today's announcement.

What matches fans can expect at Wrestle Kingdom 16 remains to be seen, but a clearer picture will be provided over the next month once G1 Climax 31 gets underway on September 18. The Tournament Of Tournaments will then run until October 21.
