Damian Priest enjoyed an excellent night on WWE Raw this past Monday, retaining the United States Championship against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus in a Triple Threat match.

The Archer Of Infamy issued an Open Challenge to start the August 30 episode of Raw, leading to the interaction and match being made between the three men, but Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio is reporting that the original plan was for Priest and McIntyre to meet in singles action.

Sheamus had initially been advertised as facing WWE Champion Bobby Lashley on the show but, according to Meltzer, WWE changed the plan when they determined they wanted Lashley to begin building a rivalry with Randy Orton.

With the Irishman now without a match, the decision was made to change the bout to a Triple Threat.

Meltzer said: "It appears the decision was that they’re gonna go with Randy Orton and Bobby Lashley, so therefore they wanted Randy Orton in there with Bobby Lashley, which took Sheamus out of that match.

"And I did hear that Drew and Priest at one point was going to be a singles match, but when they took Sheamus out (of the Lashley match), Sheamus was moved, and they made it into a three-way match. There were a million changes during the day, and at the end of the day, every match advertised didn’t happen."
