Sami Zayn has finally reached the mountaintop, defeating Cody Rhodes and Gunther at WWE Night of Champions 2026 to become WWE Champion.
With victory, Zayn becomes the 55th WWE Champion since inaugural holder Buddy Rodgers in 1963, and his win has not come a moment too soon. In fact, it seems that Zayn’s crowning was a long-time coming, and had WWE stuck by their original plans then we’d be waiting a little while more for Sami to land the big one.
Per a report from False Finish on X/Twitter, Zayn was originally pencilled in to win the title at WrestleMania XLIII in 2027, but his win was fast-tracked to Night of Champions instead. Both NOC and the upcoming Mania 43 will be held in Saudi Arabia, with Zayn a big fan favourite in the Gulf State.
For those wanting a long Zayn reign then it’s best you temper expectations, with WRKD Wrestling suggesting a short reign for Sami after simply posting ‘Don’t get too attached’ on X.
Sami’s win was met with widespread celebration both in Riyadh, and across social media, with many of Zayn’s peers congratulating him, especially best frenemy Kevin Owens.
