An All Elite Wrestling talent almost had a different in-ring name.
Speaking during a Captain's Corner virtual signing, Penelope Ford and Kip Sabian couldn't recall how their on-screen partnership came together but Ford did reveal that AEW wanted to change her in-ring name at the time. Ford did not mention any new names that were pitched, nor did she reveal why the name change was never made official.
Ford and real-life boyfriend Kip Sabian were paired together on AEW TV in early 2020 for Kip's feud with Ford's ex-boyfriend Joey Janela. They remained aligned on-screen following the programme and they often accompany each other to the ring for matches.
Sabian has most recently been involved in a feud over the All-Atlantic Championship with Orange Cassidy, while Ford has not wrestled since October of 2022.
Elsewhere in the virtual signing, Ford revealed how she got her current in-ring name, noting that Drew Gulak's wife took inspiration from Wreck-it-Ralph's Vanellope for 'Penelope'. 'Ford' was added to the name as it was easy to chant.
