People outside of WWE knew about the extent and seriousness of the allegations against Vince McMahon prior to them becoming public in the lawsuit filed by Janel Grant.

Grant, a former WWE employee, accused Vince McMahon of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and physical and emotional abuse. John Laurinaitis was also accused of sexual assault and WWE were accused of attempting to cover up the allegations against McMahon. Within the lawsuit, it alleges that Vince McMahon shared explicit photos of Grant with men inside and outside of WWE. Grant was also allegedly subjected to "acts of extreme cruelty and degradation" which includes one incident where Vince McMahon defecated on her during a threesome. During their sexual encounters, Grant allegedly suffered physical injuries including "bleeding, swelling, bruising, and spans of incontinence resulting from McMahon's forceful use of his fists, adult toys, and objects unsafe for vaginal insertion or penetration."

Vince McMahon has since resigned as TKO Executive Chairman, although he remains a major shareholder in the organisation. WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H was asked about the lawsuit following the Royal Rumble, during which he admitted he hadn't read it and claimed it had been an "amazing" week for WWE.

McMahon was previously forced to step away from WWE in 2022 amid a sexual misconduct and hush money scandal. He allegedly paid at least $14.6 million to women between 2006 and 2022 to suppress allegations of sexual misconduct and infidelity which led to McMahon's resignation as WWE CEO and Chairman. He forced his way back into the company in January 2023.

Knowledge of McMahon's actions appears to have been widespread within the company as Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that "everybody knew certain things." Word of McMahon's actions made it outside of the company as well to the point the best friend of a long-time WWE employee "knew all of it."

"Yes, it stops and ends with Vince McMahon. He was the guy at the top but as somebody said to me tonight, the whole place from the walls and everything was pretty much crawling with bad things and they need to blast that place up and they kind of do... Everybody knew certain things," Meltzer said.

"I had one person who didn't even work for the company but was best friends with somebody who worked for the company for decades. And I said like, 'Man, there's a whole lot there that I hadn't heard before' and he just goes, 'Why are you so naive? I was friends with X. I knew all of it,''' he added.
