Speaking at the post-Royal Rumble press conference, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque admitted he has not read the lawsuit filed against Vince McMahon (his father-in-law) by former WWE employee Janel Grant. Within the lawsuit, McMahon was accused of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and emotional and physical abuse. WWE was also named as a defendant, being accused of attempting to sweep allegations against McMahon "under the rug." Former WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis was also accused of sexual assault in the suit.
After being asked if he had read the lawsuit by Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics, Triple H said: "I did not. I did not. I think Cody mentioned it that we found out in real time like you were and that's the truth. I'll go back to what I said before, this is an amazing week for us and I just, at this point, I don't even want to get bogged down in the negatives of it. I just want to focus on the positives and where we're going. We're at the most exciting time of the year for us. We're at the most exciting point to me business-wise that we've ever had... I feel like we're in the middle of something that while we might not be able to put our fingers on it right now, in five, 10 years from now we're going to be saying, 'Wow, what a time that was.' I want to focus on that."
The lawsuit filed by Grant includes a number of examples of alleged "acts of extreme cruelty and degradation" committed by McMahon. Grant's lawyer Ann Callis has stated Grant felt "caged and imprisoned" by Vince McMahon.
The lawsuit is seeking a judgment that the NDA Grant signed is invalid under state and federal law. The lawsuit also seeks compensatory and punitive damages under other laws, including the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.
Following the filing of the lawsuit, Vince McMahon resigned from his role as Executive Chairman of TKO, ending his official day-to-day involvement with WWE. He is still a major shareholder in TKO Group Holdings, owning approximately 12 percent of the organisation.
Triple H was also asked what WWE are doing to ensure employees are not taken advantage of. Triple H claimed "everything possible is being done."
