Penta was featured in the main event of the September 14 edition of Monday Night Raw as he challenged Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in Mexico City. While the fans inside Arena CDMX had hoped Penta would defeat Reigns for the belt, that ultimately didn't happen as Reigns pinned Penta after 22 minutes to record the successful title defence.
Penta received plenty of praise for his performance from fans and Lucha Libre Online has reported that WWE executives in Mexico City were "extremely happy" with Penta's in-ring work in the match. His performance reportedly reinforced WWE higher-ups' belief that Penta will be a future world champion in the company.
Lucha Libre Online tweeted (translated on DeepL): "All the executives backstage at Raw in Mexico City are extremely happy with Penta's performance. Everyone knew he was an excellent wrestler, but it was something else entirely to see him dancing in the ring with Roman Reigns while the entire arena was cheering for him. WWE has just realised that they have a long-term money maker in Penta, and today's match reinforces the internal belief that, at some point, Penta will indeed become a World Champion on WWE’s main roster. Today, it became clear to him who he needed to impress. The event was a huge success in terms of ticket sales, possibly setting a record for revenue generated by WWE at the CDMX Arena."
Penta made his WWE debut in January 2025 and it quickly emerged that WWE saw "something truly special" in the former AEW World Tag Team Champion. Penta is already a former WWE Intercontinental Champion, having held the belt for 153 days from the March 2, 2026 episode of Raw to SummerSlam.
