The pro wrestling rumour mill continues to rumble on and it suggests there are major plans scheduled for tonight's episode of WWE SmackDown, which is expected to be Cena's final-ever appearance on the blue brand. Kenny Omega, meanwhile, won't be present at AEW All Out.

WWE and AEW rumours for Friday, September 5, 2025:

Brock Lesnar hasn't appeared on WWE TV since his controversial return at SummerSlam where he delivered an F5 to John Cena.

Lesnar is already being advertised for the September 12 and September 19 episodes of SmackDown ahead of a planned match with John Cena at Wrestlepalooza. According to Fightful Select, though, Lesnar was scheduled to travel to Chicago on Thursday, and he has been discussed for tonight's SmackDown at Allstate Arena.

Brock Lesnar will likely continue his issues with John Cena on SmackDown, with WrestleVotes reporting that some within WWE expect tonight's show to be Cena's last SmackDown.

"We're told some within WWE are quietly expecting tomorrow night to be John Cena's final SmackDown. According to a source, with only seven remaining dates left - and just two yet to be announced - it's unlikely another will be a SmackDown event, meaning Cena will have debuted and ended his run on the blue brand in the very same building, Chicago's Allstate Arena," WrestleVotes tweeted.

Kenny Omega To Miss AEW All Out

Kyle Fletcher laid out Kenny Omega on Wednesday night's Dynamite and The Best Bout Machine was stretchered out of 2300 Arena following the angle.

Fightful Select has reported that Kenny Omega will be missing AEW All Out, and the Kyle Fletcher angle was to help explain Omega's absence while putting over the TNT Champion in the process. Omega has planned time off and in addition to appointments tied to his illnesses and injuries, Omega will be travelling to Japan and will be at the Tokyo Game Show.

Omega responded to a WrestlePurists tweet about his time off, confirming he has had specialised hospital visits and work planned for a year.

"Time off? Specialized hospital visits and work that had been planned for a year, but sure, let's bait the trolls. I'm just trying to improve what I can and represent the company in a positive way while not performing. Don't be misleading with headlines, please and thank you," Omega wrote.

Backstage News On WWE Pushing For AJ Lee's Return

AJ Lee is expected to make her return to WWE imminently, with AJ Lee & CM Punk vs. Becky Lynch & Seth Rollins planned for Wrestlepalooza.

This isn't the first time WWE have tried to bring back AJ Lee since CM Punk's own return to the company in November 2023, however, WrestleVotes noted on WrestleVotes Radio. This is the first time WWE have really pushed for her to come back in a big way, though.

"Yeah, in an update to the news that is spreading like wildfire, we can add to the AJ Lee speculation and confirm she is expected back with the company imminently, according to a source. A lot of people have reported on this already. Sean Ross Sapp was out in front of it, but not to take anything away. AJ Lee is certainly on her way back," WrestleVotes said.

"We are also told this isn't the first time WWE has tried to bring her in since CM Punk returned in November of 2023, but this is the first time the company has pushed for it in such a big way, as they feel like her return can generate significant buzz heading into the ESPN debut...This is the first time they've really pushed her to come back to make a decision that they wanted to hear the yes word, and they got it. So she's on her way back."
