The Great American Bash was a staple in the National Wrestling Alliance and then World Championship Wrestling between 1985 and 2000 until WCW was acquired by WWE in 2001. The event remained absent from the pro wrestling calendar immediately following the acquisition but WWE would go on to revive the Great American Bash on June 27, 2004, in Norfolk, Virginia as a SmackDown-exclusive pay-per-view.
Great American Bash is widely remembered as one of the worst pay-per-views of the year and Cultaholic Wrestling's own Jack King named it WWE's weirdest pay-per-view of 2004.
