Drew McIntyre is set for a stint away from WWE programming following the November 7 episode of Friday Night SmackDown when he was suspended indefinitely by SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis.

McIntyre's suspension occurred after he laid out the referee during the main event between Cody Rhodes and Aleister Black, building on Drew's frustration after Rhodes used underhanded means to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship against McIntyre at Saturday Night's Main Event.

McIntyre could be gone from WWE TV for some time as Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio the former World Heavyweight Champion was given a storyline suspension due to doing a movie.

The movie is likely the reboot of Highlander, which is expected to begin production in early 2026. McIntyre has been cast as Angus MacLeod, the brother of Henry Cavill's Connor MacLeod.

The movie looks set to require substantial training for the role. Batista, who has also been cast in the movie, revealed to Collider that he has been training for Highlander since late August.

"I've been training since then, with a couple weeks in California. So I've been training for quite a bit. And it's a grind. Not only did I have... the physical stuff, the stunt training, the sword fight training, the fight training. But Chad has also asked me to put on a few pounds, so I've been on weight training on top of that as well. So it's been a grind," Batista said.
