Reason Why Britt Baker Has Been Absent From AEW Programming

Britt Baker hasn’t appeared on any AEW show since back in September, when she competed in a losing effort to Kris Statlander for the AEW TBS Championship on Collision. The former AEW Women’s World Champion hasn’t been quiet about the fact that she isn’t getting TV time, recently comparing her promo time to others in a tweet. 

However, the reason for Baker being off TV doesn’t seem to be related to creative issues. In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has revealed that she has been “bothered by a bad back”, and missed AEW’s recent Pittsburgh (her hometown) shows due to an illness which prevented her from travelling to shows. This explains why Baker wasn’t involved in many storylines in the last few months before her absence, and put over several other talents due to taking time off. 

Whether Baker’s tweets are genuine frustration, which would conflict with Meltzer’s reasoning for her being off television, or whether it is to stir up interest in a potential return and her tweets are a work, remains to be seen.
