Referee Calls AEW 'Wrestling For Nerds'

An AEW referee has detailed how the promotion is happy to embrace nerd culture.

AEW referee Bryce Remsburg recently appeared on the Should I Keep This podcast, and described the promotion (in a positive way) as "wrestling for nerds." He explained:

"AEW has embraced the nerd culture of wrestling. It's about star-ratings and matches because our owner and CEO and boss is a self-admitted wrestling nerd."

He elaborated on this point, explaining that WWE often deliberately avoids embracing the 'nerdier' aspects of professional wrestling - an avoidance which has allowed AEW to embrace nerd culture more fully, making their product stand out as a result.

Bryce also explained that AEW has been a promotion where longer, more detailed storylines have been able to thrive - although he admitted that WWE have recently improved in this area, possibly referring to the ongoing Bloodline saga centred around Roman Reigns.

"WWE has arguably very much improved in that regard, but AEW is doing it harder and more prevalently. [...] If the Pepsi label looked like the Coke label that would be confusing. So AEW has to be the things that WWE wasn't."
