Rene Dupree Claims Roman Reigns Turned Down AJPW Run

An AJPW run was a possibility for Roman Reigns

In an alternate past, Roman Reigns may have become a multi-time Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion.

Speaking on his Cafe de Rene podcast, former WWE Superstar Rene Dupree claimed Roman Reigns turned down the opportunity to perform in All Japan Pro-Wrestling before he signed a developmental deal with WWE.

"Rosey, which was Big Matty, was Roman’s brother. So before he debuted with WWE, his brother suggested he come to Japan for a few tours. The All Japan office wanted him to live in the dojo for three months and he didn't wanna do that. He just wanted to go over and tour for three tours and then sign with WWF [WWE]," Dupree said.

Reigns would ultimately turn down an AJPW run and he signed with WWE in 2010. He is currently the company's top star and The Big Dog is the reigning Universal Champion, having held the gold since Payback 2020.

Reigns is scheduled to put the title on the line at WrestleMania 38 in a Championship Unification Match against WWE Champion Brock Lesnar.
