Report: AEW Dynamite 'Heavily Rewritten' Due To Hangman Page's Absence

Hangman Page tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week

The latest edition of AEW: Dynamite saw an official announcement confirming that CM Punk will take on AEW World Champion Hangman Adam Page for the title at Double or Nothing on May 29.

Punk took a mic after commentating on the Dax Harwood vs. Cash Wheeler Owen Hart Tournament qualifier, confirming his intent to wrestle for the title. However, Hangman was conspicuous by his absence, having earlier revealed that he’d be missing the show due to testing positive for COVID-19.

According to The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer on Twitter, Hangman’s last minute absence meant that Dynamite was heavily rewritten.

What was initially intended for Page is as yet unknown, as is what was added into/rewritten for Dynamite. The episode itself featured multiple backstage segments from the likes of The Jericho Appreciation Society, Eddie Kingston and The Proud & Powerful, MJF and Shawn Spears, Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter, Toni Storm, and Ruby Soho, and saw a title change when Scorpio Sky won the TNT Championship in a main event ladder match.
