Questions were raised on social media regarding the quality of AEW’s refereeing team, following more than one clip shared online which showed a referee pushing down a wrestler’s shoulder to the mat in order to start a three-count, in plain view of the camera.

Fightful Select reached out to AEW for a response to some of the online backstage over this situation, and the response from the company was that it will never be happening again. It is stated that there was no reason given for what happened, but that those in AEW have said it won’t continue.

Additionally, Fightful Select have revealed that many of AEW’s refereeing team were signed to new deals, extending their day with several one-year contract extensions, which may have been signed up to six months ago, with many of those potentially being halfway through those new deals as of this writing. There were no specific names given by AEW in terms of who was re-signed. Going forwards, it is expected that several AEW referees will instead be getting long-term deals rather than short-term contract renewals.
