Wednesday’s edition of AEW: Dynamite included the announcement that AEW are set to hold their first ever house show on Friday April 9 at Daily’s Place, Jacksonville, Florida.
Of course, this falls within WrestleMania week, with WWE’s two-day extravaganza taking place on Saturday April 10, and Sunday April 11 at Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, Florida.
With Jacksonville only a three-and-a-half hour drive away from Tampa, the belief is that fans in town for Mania will be tempted to make the trip to Jacksonville, according to a report from The Wrestling Observer. With SmackDown being pre-recorded for that week, this leaves Friday as a ‘wrestling free’ day in WWE’s WrestleMania calendar.
It is also believed that with such a stacked roster, AEW wants to get some of their Dark and Dark: Elevation talent used to wrestling in front of crowds, something that hasn’t been afforded to them on a regular basis due to Covid-19.
Other promotions that are scheduled to run shows in Florida that week include IWTV and The Collective. Additionally, WrestleCon will run a socially distanced convention.
