Report: AEW PPVs On Max Part Of Agreement In Principle For New WBD TV Deal
AEW PPVs reportedly heading to MAX
Jul 23, 2024
Following reports that All Elite Wrestling and Warner Bros. Discovery had reached an agreement in principle for a new United States media rights deal, further details about the agreement have been revealed.
According to BJ Bethel of SEScoops, there is an agreement on paper that would keep AEW programming on WBD channels for the next several years. The deal could change as both sides draw closer to signing the contract but there is a written agreement as things stand and an official announcement may happen in the next several weeks.
The AEW-WBD agreement in principle includes a streaming component that would see AEW content, including pay-per-views, be added to MAX. How much the new TV deal is worth is unknown but the current agreement is believed to be on "the middle to high side" of the figures that were being negotiated. The exclusive negotiating window between AEW and WBD expired on Sunday, July 21, according to Bethel.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio the AEW-WBD deal is "just about done" but it is unknown what sort of impact WBD's decision to match Amazon's bid for NBA rights will have on All Elite Wrestling.
"The AEW deal is just about done, as many have talked about. It may not affect it at all but if that deal is not pretty much done, spending $1.9 billion a year, that's gonna do a number on the budget," Meltzer said.
AEW programming has aired on Warner Bros. Discovery channels since 2019. AEW Dynamite currently airs on TBS on Wednesday nights, while Rampage and Collision air on TNT on Friday nights and Saturday nights respectively.
