Although not officially confirmed by the promotion, it has been widely reported that Malakai Black likely won't be seen on AEW TV again as his deal comes to an end.

Black's AEW contract is thought to have either expired already or currently be nearing its expiration, with WWE reportedly waiting to swoop in once he becomes available.

Wrestling Observer Radio sheds some light on the possible backstage reaction towards Black leaving, with Dave Meltzer explaining:

"He's gone, he's not going to be on TV again most likely. It's funny because as talented as he is, everyone I've asked about it, they all kind of [react the same] and it's kind of like 'good,' so whatever that's worth.

"He did work hard in his matches, I'm not saying that he didn't, but he wanted to go back [to WWE] and I think that it was very clear he wanted to go back, and once you get that thing [...] it doesn't work out to put you on TV or anything like that. Especially if you're not comfortable losing, it makes it a lot worse."

Black's most recent AEW match came at the Full Gear pay-per-view in November last year. Alongside Brody King, he took part in a four-way tag team title match also featuring Private Party, The Acclaimed and The Outrunners.
