Malakai Black Expected To Sign With WWE Following AEW Exit
WWE return expected for Malakai Black following AEW departure
Jan 10, 2025
The seemingly never-ending saga of Malakai Black’s All Elite Wrestling status appears to be nearing an end, with multiple reports suggesting the House of Black leader is exiting the promotion.
Black’s contract is believed to be expiring/has expired around the start of 2025, with an angle between Will Ospreay and Buddy Matthews on the January 8 edition of AEW Dynamite suggesting that Black was done. In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer states that WWE are expected to swoop for Black when he is available.
Black’s return to WWE has been expected for several years, especially as his relationship with AEW has appeared rocky at times. Meltzer further suggests that Black’s name has been mentioned within WWE creative as of late, although whether this is in regards to an expected run or mere ideas in case he signs remains unknown.
Formerly known as Aleister Black in WWE, Black is a former NXT Champion, having enjoyed a 108-day reign with the belt in 2018. Black was released by WWE in June 2021, debuting in AEW one month later in a high-profile feud with Cody Rhodes.
