AEW were interested in using Dakota Kai after she was released by WWE in April 2022, according to a new report.
Discussing Kai - who was released once again by WWE on May 2 - during a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said:
"I know the last time that she got cut, I believe that she was talking to AEW and I know she was talking to STARDOM. But then she got called back and didn't go. I don't know the details of how deep the conversations were with AEW, but I could think that it's one of those things where we were ready to use her and she ran right back".
Addressing her release in a statement on X, Kai wrote:
"Trying to get through all the messages and man, whether it's from friends, family, colleagues, coaches, you guys… I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. That's the stuff that matters. I got to make memories, create the best friendships and travel the world. I'm beyond grateful for the opportunities. Gonna take a little time but just know… we are far from done. I've BEEN ready. Let's go. – king kota."
Just days before her release, the New Zealand native took to social media to address her absence from WWE television, noting that she was not injured.
According to a report by Fightful Select, Kai has already received interest from top agents in wrestling following her release. The former Damage CTRL member is bound to a standard 90-day non-compete clause.
