John Pollock of POST Wrestling and Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics reported over the weekend that NXT India is expected to launch in the new year and begin filming in January 2021. The series will begin with an eight-man single-elimination tournament and is expected to air on TV in India and on the WWE Network. WWE currently has a TV deal in India with Sony Pictures Networks India Private Limited (SPN) and WWE programming is broadcast on the Sony Ten network.
Sportskeeda later reported the upcoming eight-man tournament will feature talent from India and will be taped at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Current travel restrictions prevent the show from being taped elsewhere.
Details are reportedly still being finalised, but the scheduled launch date for the new series is January 26 - Republic Day in India.
The participants in the tournament are also yet to be set in stone but the likes of Jinder Mahal, The Singh Brothers, Indus Sher, Jeet Rama, Gurvinder Singh, Sukhwinder Grewal and Laxmi Kant Rajpoot may be in action. Both Singh and Grewal were trained by The Great Khali and stand at over seven-foot tall.
Following the launch of the series, WWE is hoping to construct a Performance Center in India in 2022.
The company will also look to consolidate its presence in the Asian markets and establish NXT Asia at some point in the future. The subsidiary will be composed of talent from countries like Japan, China and Singapore and is being created because of All Elite Wrestling's growing presence on the continent.
