Report: Backstage News On Brock Lesnar's Latest WWE Return

More on Brock Lesnar's WWE return on SmackDown

Two months after WrestleMania 38, Brock Lesnar returned on the June 17 edition of Friday Night SmackDown and laid out Roman Reigns following his successful Undisputed WWE Universal Title defence against Riddle.

It was then announced following SmackDown that Lesnar and Reigns will go one-on-one in a Last Man Standing Match for the Undisputed Title at SummerSlam on July 30.

That wasn't the original plan, though. Randy Orton was originally booked to be Reigns' opponent at SummerSlam but the 14-time world champion is currently dealing with a back injury that could leave him out of action for the rest of 2022 if he requires surgery.

According to Fightful Select, once it became clear that Orton would not be able to compete at SummerSlam, WWE began putting plans in place for Lesnar to return, with those plans coming together three weeks ago.

When Lesnar and Reigns do face off at SummerSlam, it will be their seventh singles match since 2015 and their third since Lesnar came out of retirement at SummerSlam 2021.
