Report: Backstage News On IYO SKY Winning The WWE Women's Title At SummerSlam

IYO SKY lifted the WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam 2023

Bianca Belair managed to outlast Charlotte Flair and Asuka to emerge victorious as the new WWE Women’s Champion at SummerSlam 2023… for about 45 seconds as IYO SKY ran down to successfully cash in her Money in the Bank contract and leave with the gold.

SKY had been in possession of the MITB briefcase since July 1, and a report from Fightful Select says that SKY’s successful cash-in wasn’t a last-minute decision, although it is currently unknown how far in advance SKY was told that she’d be winning the title at SummerSlam.

In WWE, SKY has held the WWE Women’s Championship, WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, NXT Women’s Championship, and NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship, she just needs a run with the Women’s World Championship to be recognised as a Grand Slam Champion in the company, with only five women recognised as such in WWE history.

Outside of WWE, SKY held multiple titles in World Wonder Ring STARDOM, with Michael Cole even referencing SKY’s history in the Japanese Joshi promotion during her SummerSlam victory.
