Steve McMichael Improving Following Hospitalisation

Steve ‘Mongo’ McMichael said to be improving following hospitalisation

Steve McMichael is said to be improving following a recent hospitalisation.

The NFL legend and former Four Horsemen member has been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) for several years, but was recently hospitalised due to contracting sepsis. McMichael’s family have revealed that ‘Mongo’ has overcome sepsis, but remains hospitalised with pneumonia.

McMichael first rose to prominence with his run as defensive tackle for the Chicago Bears in the NFL, winning Superbowl XX in 1986. After calling time on his playing career in 1994, McMichael transitioned to pro-wrestling, first appearing at WWE WrestleMania XI as part of Lawrence Taylor’s entourage, before signing a deal with Word Championship Wrestling in 1995.

In WCW, McMichael - and pet chihuahua Pepe - would serve as colour commentator on Nitro, before transitioning into an in-ring role. ‘Mongo’ would wind up a member of the legendary Four Horseman, and would go on to hold the WCW United States Championship. McMichael would depart WCW in 1999.

McMichael would reveal his ALS diagnosis in 2021, with his family releasing pictures and videos of McMichael with former colleagues from football and wrestling as he continues to fight the disease.
