Report: Backstage News On John Cena's Planned WWE WrestleMania 39 Match

John Cena is set to compete at WWE WrestleMania 39

Further details about John Cena's WrestleMania 39 match have been revealed.

The 16-time world champion has long been planned for the Show of Shows, and Logan Paul was his original opponent until WWE reportedly pivoted to a match with Austin Theory for Cena. That match has yet to be made official but Cena is scheduled to make his WWE return on the March 6 edition of Monday Night Raw.

In an update on the planned match, WrestlingNews.co reported that Cena "absolutely believes" Theory has the tools to be a main event talent in WWE and it is believed Cena is returning to "help put Theory over." WWE management also remain high on Theory and they are very happy with his progress. The United States Champion is seen as someone who can carry WWE for the next decade.

Cena has not performed at WrestleMania since WrestleMania 36 when he lost to Bray Wyatt in a Firefly Fun House Match. His last WWE match took place in late 2022 when he teamed with Kevin Owens to defeat Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn.
