Report: Backstage News On Major WWE WrestleMania 39 Match Being Scrapped

A major WWE WrestleMania 39 match is apparently no longer slated to take place.

A major WWE WrestleMania 39 match has reportedly been scrapped.

Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch was planned for the 2023 edition of the Showcase of the Immortals but Fightful Select have confirmed that is no longer the case. Rousey is still expected to have a major match at WrestleMania 39. The UFC Hall of Famer had been SmackDown Women's Champion but she dropped the belt to Charlotte Flair on December 30.

Many thought Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey should have headlined WrestleMania 35 but WWE opted to add Charlotte Flair to the match to make it a Triple Threat.

Steven Muehlhausen of DAZN noted those close to Lynch felt the match with Rousey had "lost its luster."

"Sources: In regards to no Becky Lynch vs Ronda Rousey at Mania, people close to Lynch feel the match has lost its luster and should’ve been 1 on 1 at WrestleMania 35 when Ronda was at her apex," he tweeted.

Fightful's report also mentions Logan Paul as the preferred opponent for John Cena currently, a spot which had previously been thought to belong to Austin Theory - although nothing is yet set in stone. It also alludes to a previous pitch made when Vince McMahon was still in charge of creative - one which would have seen Cena take on Cody Rhodes. However, this suggestion reportedly hasn't been discussed since Triple H took over.

WrestleMania 39 is set to take place on April 1 and 2 in Inglewood, California.
