Report: Backstage News On The WWE Draft

More details about why WWE decided to hold the draft at the end of April and beginning of May

Another WWE Draft is on the horizon, with WWE set to shuffle the rosters on Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown.

It has been revealed the 2023 WWE Draft will be held over two shows beginning with the April 28 episode of SmackDown before coming to an end on the May 1 edition of Raw. WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H previously revealed every talent in WWE will be eligible to be drafted, hinting some of WWE's top developmental talents in NXT will be on their way to the main roster. The likes of Bron Breakker, Cameron Grimes, and Pretty Deadly have been rumoured for main roster call-ups.

The WWE Draft will coincide with the NFL Draft in the United States, which is set to be held in Kansas City, Missouri from Thursday, April 27 until Saturday, April 29. The event will see the best players from American universities be drafted by NFL teams, with the Carolina Panthers currently in possession of the number one pick.

WWE deciding to hold the WWE Draft around the NFL Draft reportedly was "not an accident", according to Fightful Select, with the company seemingly looking to use the buzz around the NFL to bring more eyes to their upcoming roster shakeup.

There have been some questions about WWE's decision to hold a draft, especially since the brand split has been eased over the past several months, with the likes of Judgment Day, The Usos, and Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn appearing regularly on both Raw and SmackDown.
