Report: Backstage Reaction To MJF's Frustration With AEW Contract Revealed

What do AEW talent think about the MJF-AEW situation?

Following an initial 'heated discussion' between MJF and Tony Khan back in April, it appeared they had resolved their issues in a follow-up conversation but it has since emerged that Maxwell Jacob Friedman remains frustrated with his All Elite Wrestling contract. Recent reports have noted that Friedman's issues stem from the pay scale in his deal and the three-time Dynamite Diamond Ring winner is currently leaning towards departing AEW when his contract expires in 2024.

In an update on the situation, Fightful Select reported they haven't heard of any talks about a new deal but overtures had been made to MJF about beginning negotiations over a new contract.

People backstage in AEW are also divided on the situation, with some in the promotion believing MJF had outperformed his deal while others think it would set a bad precedent if Tony Khan was to rework Friedman's contract.

On the chances of a new deal, one talent noted Khan is willing to give MJF a new contract comparable to other top AEW stars. Friedman also isn't trying to receive more money in the promotion without putting pen to paper on an extension since he knows 'contracts don't work like that.'
