Report: Clarification On WWE WrestleMania 39 Opponents Pitched To Steve Austin

More on WWE's WrestleMania 39 plans for Steve Austin

After initially claiming that Roman Reigns had not been pitched as an opponent for Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 39, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has now changed his report, stating that facing the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion was suggested to Austin. Meltzer also stated that Brock Lesnar was the original opponent pitched to Austin for the Show of Shows.

Meltzer tweeted: "Both were pitched. Austin vs. Lesnar was the original pitch."

This comes after Fightful Select reported that Austin had been pitched a match with Roman Reigns that would see The Texas Rattlesnake pocket an "enormous" amount of money. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful later stated that the match was suggested for WrestleMania.

A match against Lesnar reportedly will not be taking place at WrestleMania 39. How Austin responded to a match with Roman Reigns is currently unknown, although more could be revealed in the coming days with the Royal Rumble set to emanate from San Antonio's Alamodome on Saturday, January 28. Austin is one of the favourites to win the Rumble on betting sites along with Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn, and The Rock.

Austin had previously been retired from pro wrestling but he returned to a WWE ring at WrestleMania 38, defeating Kevin Owens in a No Holds Barred Match.
