Report: Cody Rhodes-WWE Talks Have "Fizzled Out"

What's next for The American Nightmare?

Talks between Cody Rhodes and WWE have apparently tapered off, according to a new report from Cassidy Haynes of bodyslam.net.

In an update Thursday, Haynes wrote that while gathering information about Tony Khan's purchase of Ring of Honor, he spoke to sources about Cody and Brandi Rhodes' exit from AEW.

According to Haynes, the sources confirmed that the Rhodes' exit was, "very much real life, and was not a work." Additionally, Haynes was apparently told that Cody had ongoing discussions with WWE, but that, "Those conversations have since fizzled out."

Once source indicated hope that Cody could be brought back to AEW, in light of that belief. With the acquisition of ROH, there's an indication that Cody could have a path back into AEW.

Rhodes last wrestled for AEW on January 26, losing the TNT title a ladder match to Sammy Guevara. Three weeks later, Rhodes posted a farewell message on social media, and it was reported that he and Brandi had both departed the company.

Rhodes and Khan were reportedly in negotiations over a new contract, but failed to reach an agreement. Khan reportedly declined to pick-up an option on Rhodes' prior deal.
