Report: WWE "Shocked" By Tony Khan-ROH Deal

Surprise within WWE

The wrestling world was stunned on Wednesday as AEW President Tony Khan announced he was now the owner of Ring Of Honor, having purchased the promotion from Sinclair Broadcast Group.

Fans weren't the only ones stunned by Tony Khan's announcement, though.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, some in WWE were "legitimately shocked" when Khan made the announcement. Individuals within the company reportedly believed Khan's massive announcement was going to be in relation to a streaming deal with HBO Max.

How talent performing at Supercard Of Honor on April 1 reacted is currently unknown but they found out about the Khan-ROH deal at the same time as the rest of the world.

While WWE were shocked at Khan's announcement, they could have been the owners of Ring Of Honor. WWE reportedly initially held talks with Ring Of Honor about purchasing the promotion in December of 2021, after Joe Koff announced the company's hiatus. The two sides were unable to come to a deal, though, and Tony Khan ultimately swooped in.
