Report: Details On Who Was Supposed To Win Men's WWE Royal Rumble

Brock Lesnar was apparently not the first choice

After dropping the WWE title to Bobby Lashley earlier in the night, Brock Lesnar entered the men's Royal Rumble at the number 30 position, and went on to win the match a mere two and a half minutes later.

While Lesnar was a pretty safe bet to be a part of the WrestleMania championship picture whether he won or not, Mike Johnson of PWInsider has reported that Lesnar was not the original choice to win the men's Rumble match.

According to Johnson's report, WWE's original choice of winner was Riddle. Johnson wrote that while Riddle was the plan, "Plans were changed over the course of the week a ton of times with the final decision to have Brock Lesnar enter and win as a surprise."

The report also states that Riddle's partner (and St. Louis native) Randy Orton was also considered, but that Riddle was the frontrunner until WWE made the change to Lesnar.

Riddle entered the fray from the number 20 position. He lasted nearly 20 minutes in the match, and helped Orton eliminate both Big E and Otis. Ultimately, Riddle finished in fourth place, after being eliminated by Lesnar.
