Rey Mysterio was pulled from WWE WrestleMania 41 at the last minute on Saturday night, with it being announced during the pre-show that Mysterio was not cleared to compete in his scheduled match against El Grande Americano.

Mysterio was pulled from the show after suffering an injury on Friday Night SmackDown, with it being noted by Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio that Mysterio was injured on the spot where Julius Creed pulled him out of the ring during their six-man tag team match. Dave Meltzer reported that Mysterio suffered a torn groin on the spot.

Mysterio was replaced at WrestleMania 41 by Rey Fenix, with the former AAA Mega Champion ultimately losing to El Grande Americano after initially injuring his foot on a kick to Americano's loaded mask. Americano then followed up with a loaded headbutt to Fenix before a Diving Headbutt for the win.

Meltzer noted that the original creative planned for Rey Mysterio vs. El Grande Americano was maintained for Rey Fenix vs. El Grande Americano. The match had time cut, however.

"They were cut short on time. I think, because you know this was a late thing and these things are laid out. So I think that the whole thing was Rey and [Gable] were going to do this eight-minute match, I think the finish was the exact finish they were going to do with Rey," Meltzer said.

How long Rey Mysterio will be out of action is unknown. Depending on the severity of the groin tear, the injury can take over four months to heal.
