Report: FOX Not Happy With WWE Over NXT's Potential Move To USA Network
FOX left out in the cold?
Aug 18, 2019
It's been a crazy week of TV-related news, beginning with word that WWE was intending to move NXT from its WWE Network home into a two-hour Wednesday night slot on a major cable outlet.
In the early going, the FOX-owned FS1 received the most mentions as the likely destination for NXT, but days ago, longtime WWE home
USA Network emerged as the apparent front-runnerfor the developmental brand.
Dave Meltzer spoke of the situation on
Wrestling Observer Radio, saying in part, "Fox obviously thought they were getting the Wednesday show on FS1," and added, "...they told their affiliates that we’re going to be getting NXT and they’re not.”
FOX is paying a staggering $205M annually for SmackDown on Friday nights, as part of a five-year deal. Meltzer adds that FOX stands to miss out on a lot of money by not getting the NXT program on their cable outlet.
Meltzer further elaborated on the apparent FOX perspective on the matter, saying, "Now all of a sudden WWE has made it so that FOX is not the WWE channel - USA is. USA Network is gonna have Miz & Mrs, they’re gonna have the Steve Austin show, they’re gonna have Raw, they’re gonna have two hours on Wednesday."
