Back on the January 15 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Jey Uso declared for the Royal Rumble and announced he would challenge Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship if he managed to outlast 29 other Superstars. He also faced off against Shinsuke Nakamura on the show and appeared in the main event segment with Roman Reigns and Adam Pearce.

Uso hasn't appeared on WWE TV since, though, and he was absent from the Men's Royal Rumble despite being advertised for the show until Sunday afternoon.

According to the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer, Uso is not medically cleared for in-ring action. Why Jey isn't medically cleared is currently unknown and his return date is also unclear.

Jey's tag team partner Jimmy Uso is also currently on the sidelines, having sustained a torn ACL during the SmackDown Tag Team Championship match at WrestleMania 36. Jimmy underwent surgery soon after and was expected to return by February 2021.

The brothers have been one of the top tag teams in WWE in recent years and they are six-time tag team champions.
