Report: Kenny Omega Set To Vacate AAA Mega Title
No more gold for Omega
Nov 22, 2021
Kenny Omega's run as The Belt Collector is set to come to an end.
The Best Bout Machine has dropped the IMPACT World Title and AEW World Championship in recent months and Omega is set to vacate the AAA Mega Championship, according to Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez.
Omega was set to defend the gold against El Hijo Del Vikingo at TripleMania Regia on December 4 but the AEW star is dealing with a whole host of injuries that require multiple surgeries. It then emerged on Friday that Omega had informed AAA he wouldn't be able to face Vikingo and the title is set to be vacated.
Alvarez and Meltzer had the following exchange on Wrestling Observer Radio:
Alvarez: "Kenny Omega is vacating the AAA (Mega) Title."
Meltzer: "Yeah, it may happen tomorrow (today, November 22). It's supposed to happen any day now, and they will announce a new main event. I don't know all the details. The definite rumour is that there's gonna be a multi-person match, but I don't know who'll be in the match. But it should be out in the next couple of days. So that (match) is December 4 in Monterrey at the stadium, so it's too bad he couldn't do the match with Vikingo, but he couldn't do the match with Vikingo. Which was his (Omega's) handpicked match."
Omega has been AAA Mega Champion since he defeated Rey Fenix for the gold in October 2019. He has defended it several times over the last 765 days against the likes of Dragon Lee, Laredo Kid, Sammy Guevara, Jack Evans and Andrade El Idolo.
