Although Stephanie Vaquer lost the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship to Mercedes Moné at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024, many have been impressed by Vaquer, after the two put on one of the matches of the night at the third annual crossover show.

Some fans may not have been familiar with Vaquer prior to Forbidden Door, and a report from PWInsider has noted that Mercedes Moné went into the match with the ‘express goal’ of ‘making’ Vaquer, and getting Vaquer over with the live crowd.

Indeed, the crowd reaction to the match was loud, with sections of the fans loudly cheering Vaquer whilst booing Moné - the latter partly due to Moné being from Boston, whilst Forbidden Door was held in Long Island, New York.

There was reportedly a lot of praise inside All Elite Wrestling for the title-for-title match between the two, with it noted that it’s felt that Moné achieved her goal of ‘making’ Vaquer. Vaquer is also said to have gotten into New York late, arriving in the city the afternoon of the show on June 30, whilst most talents arrived the night before. With it presumed that the pair had less time to prepare for the bout than preferred, this has potentially only added to AEW’s pleasure.
