Report: MMA Promotions Interested In Using Matt Riddle Following WWE Release

Could Matt Riddle return to the fight game?

Matt Riddle may end up returning to mixed martial arts, according to a new report.

The former WWE United States Champion was released last week, with reports suggesting he burned through too many chances due to his outside-the-ring exploits.

In WWE, Riddle had notable run-ins with Goldberg, Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins, along with a Wellness Policy violation that lead to a stint in rehab late last year. Speaking about Riddle's future during a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that more than one MMA promotion may try and tempt him back into the sport:

"I do know that (Matt) Riddle has got at least one major MMA promotion, if not more, that are interested in bringing him back to MMA," Meltzer said.

That promotion would likely not be UFC, which recently merged with WWE to form TKO Group Holdings. Riddle was cut from UFC in 2013 after testing positive for marijuana. UFC CEO Dana White heavily criticised Riddle's decision-making abilities during media interviews.

The 37-year-old's professional MMA record stands at 8 wins and 3 losses, with two 'no contests'. He last fought in February of 2014.
