Report: More Details On WWE Contract Renegotiations Reportedly Emerge

While Kevin Owens' WWE contract was believed to be expiring in 2023, it has emerged in recent days the former Universal Champion's contract only runs until January 2022. WWE opted to restructure a number of deals ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic and this resulted in Owens' contract being shortened. 

Officials within WWE also believe that Owens has already decided that he will leave the company when his deal comes to an end. 

Fightful Select has since provided more details on Owens' contract and they noted WWE were "fully aware" that KO's deal was shortened to 2022. They also noted several WWE contracts were renegotiated in 2019 and adjusted for higher guarantees.

Owens' situation isn't similar to Pete Dunne and Adam Cole, where their WWE deals were due to expire significantly sooner than company officials realised, resulting in extensions being hastily offered. Adam Cole ultimately agreed to a short-term deal and he has since left and joined All Elite Wrestling. If Dunne has signed a new contract remains unknown. 

Furthermore, Fightful Select noted WWE discovered Dunne and Cole's contracts were up much sooner during an internal review after the company discovered Malakai Black's non-compete clause wasn't altered. There was significant heat within WWE for people "falling asleep at the wheel" over NXT contracts. This isn't an issue on the main roster, though, as several Superstars spoke directly with Vince McMahon about their deals.
